7. West Virginia Penitentiary
The West Virginia Penitentiary was the most violent correctional facility in the entire world, and is very well known for its Hell on Earth experience. The Penitentiary also known as Moundsville Penitentiary was opened in 1876 for 480 prisoners but housed a total of 2400 prisoners by 1930.
3 prisoners were made to stay inside the invariably tiny five by seven prisons cells. The penitentiary had some of the most horrifying killing instruments which included violent methods to kill the prisoners. Around 990 prisoners were killed and more than 50 committed suicides due to the unbearable harassment’s and torture.
These unconditional violent situations made the West Virginia Penitentiary the center of the paranormal activities even after closure of the penitentiary in 1986. While you are inside this facility you might see the shadow man ghost that has been seen on the walls for a dozens of time, the gates of the cell even sometimes mysteriously opens and closes.
Scarring voices most often of people arguing and laughing is heard in the darkest places along with weird noises and perceptions of someone being at your back is felt by most people at the North Wagon gate the place inside where the inmates were taken to be hung.
It is no doubt why this place was known as the Hell on Earth, the violence and cruelty with the inmates made this place really horrifying and dangerous for people to even stay after 6PM.
6. Bhangarh Fort
Bhangarh fort in India is regarded as the most haunted place, which has a long history of the royal family of Madho Singh, who was the younger son of Bhagwant Das who built the entire fort. But beware, you are strictly warned by the supernatural powers and even the city authority that do not even try to stay in Bhangarh Fort after the sunsets.
Even the birds and animals also move out of the fort after the sun sets. It is believed by the travelers here in the fort that they seem to feel that an unknown vision is looking towards them.
The fort was built in 17th century and has various stories which claim the cause of this fort being haunted. Some local habitats believe it to be cursed by a sage, who lived in the fort. The entire fort was built enormously in size which has four main entrance gates, followed by a large number of temples and palace houses.
The entire fort was invaded by Mughals, where they killed all the people who lived in this fort along with the royal family. Since then, this fort is in ruined condition and various haunted and scarring voices can be heard after the sunset, which is why you are advised not to stay in this fort after the sunset.
5. Aokigahara – Suicide Forest
Japan has one of the highest suicide rates in the world and Aokigahara is one of the most popular suicide points in the world. Situated in the majestic Mount Fuji, with incredibly dense forest, which is why this forest is also known as the Sea of Trees.
More than 100 people a year have killed themselves by committing suicides, which is why the forest has an extensively large number of body corpses. Most people chose to hang from the trees, which is why we often get to see scary dead bodies and the skeletons hanging from trees in the entire forests.
The forest has an extremely horrifying scenario (and that’s the reason we can’t show you those images here in the article as that might disturb the audience & readers) and we can surely bet that you can’t stay even a night here, as staying here is like getting buried inside a graveyard with dead bodies all around you.
While it is completely allowed to camp in the forest for overnights, but whosoever did that, explains that how frightening and scary it was actually to stay in the dense forest with the skulls and bones spread all around. Weird voices and screams have even been experienced as explained by the local habitats.
So don’t even dare to enter this forest alone as most people who committed suicide or found dead entered the forest without even an intention of committing suicide.
4. Fort Delaware
Fort Delaware was defense facility constructed for the American civil war prisoners. The ghost stories in the Delaware fort date back to the World War 2. More than 2400 people were killed in this fort located on Pea Patch Island.
This place have been an attraction point for the paranormal activity learners and people who want to experience the sight of ghosts. But this place have seemed to provide both to the people who visited this fort.
Haunting voices and moving objects make this fort even more scary and dreadful. In 2008, Ghost Hunters, a show on the Sci-Fi channel investigated this fort and found that the fort is haunted by several spirits who try to make their presence to the people visiting this place.
Some people who stayed a night in this fort reported that & all of sudden the oil lamps blew off and crashed on the floor. The experiences have so badly scared people that they never want to come back to this fort. The employees who
guard the fort claim to hear the dog barks inside the fort. Which by the way the
island has no dogs and they only existed long years back ago.
3. The Myrtles Plantation House
Myrtles Plantation house is considered to be the most haunted house in America, this home is haunted by a slave girl and many other dozens of supernatural powers. The house is believed to be built upon an old Tunica Indian burial ground and some even claim that there had been at least ten murders committed in this house.
Sounds of someone climbing upstairs in the dark is often heard by the people staying here, while a photograph taken by tourists to this house consists a mysterious girl in antebellum clothing who seems to be peering from the windows of the house.
She is called the ghost girl, who is even believed to be the slave girl – Chloe who stayed in this house with the Judge Woodruff and was murdered by her fellow slaves. The photograph continues to be extensively researched and studied by the experts worldwide, but still it remains without an explanation of the ‘Ghost Girl’.
Mr. Norman Benoit, did
a shadow density test to check if the photograph is real or fake. But what he found in
the results was really shocking, the circumference of the head, the shoulders
and even length of the elbow were all indicative of a real human being.
2. The Catacombs in Paris
Beneath the beautiful city of Paris is an unknown world called the Catacombs of Paris, which is an ossuary of more than six million people. The small tunnel known as the Gate of Hell, was built to eliminate the city’s overflowing cemeteries.
It was in the 17th century when the cemeteries in Paris was overflowing, and those living in the neighborhood of Les Innocents Cemetery continuously complained about the strong smell of decomposing flesh. In 1780, Louis XVI ordered the closure of the cemeteries and started moving the bones and skulls in this long 200 mile catacomb.
Some famous characters such as Maximilien de Robespierre, the influential figure during the revolution and the Reign of Terror also rests in peace in this catacomb of Paris. While the moving of bones in this catacomb was stopped in 1860, this place remains open for the visitors.
While you enter the ossuary, you will come across a script written in haunting style which says, “Stop! This is the empire of death!”
People have reported to hear disembodied voices talking to each other which even try to lure adventurers farther into the tunnels. There are rumors of a man wandering to be lost in this dark catacomb in 2010, and never seen back again, to which the evidences from the video footage’s have even been found.
The stories here have even inspired the horror movie story of – As Above, So Below in 2014.

1. Antietam National Battlefield
Antietam National Battlefield situated in the Northern Virginia, is remembered as the bloodiest battle in the history of Civil War. The battle of Antietam was fought on September 17 1862, and during a fight that lasted for 4 hours long, 23,100 men were wounded and killed.
The originally known Sunken lane in the battle was overrun by dead bodies, piling one above the other. In today’s date this lane is famously known as the ‘Bloody Lane’.
Another haunted area is Burnside’s Bridge, which was originally known as Rohrback Bridge. It’s the place in the battle where many soldiers were buried under the bridge with unmarked graves. Visitors have reported to see several men dressed in Confederate uniforms and marching in the Bloody lane, but before anyone could understand who they were actually, they vanished in the dark.
Chants of Christmas songs is commonly heard by from the lanes, and even gunfire sounds and gun powder smell can even be experienced. The St. Paul Episcopal Church was used as a hospital after the battle from where screams of injured and dying soldiers is heard and even flickering lights from the tower of the church is even reported to be seen.
This place is very dreadful and haunted place in Northern Virginia, and people don’t even opt to pass by this place during the night times.
